The Swiss-born producer will release a second record on her label this month with remixes from IVVVO and Hieroglyphic Being.
Although Swiss-born, half-Tibetan producer and vocalist Aïsha Devi will be known to most for her releases on Mental Groove and Border Community under the Kate Wax moniker, last year saw the artist adopt her given name and start the Danse Noire label with some like-minded associates to release what the label’s tagline describes as “ritual music”. This approach has seen a record of hypnotic vocal synthpop experiments from Devi herself joined by music from Italian artist Vaghe Stelle and Algeria-based producer El Mahdy Jr, with well chosen remixes from the likes of Cooly G, Nguzunguzu and Killing Sound complementing the label’s aesthetic.
The label’s fourth release, out later this month, will see Devi return for a second EP on the label entitled Hakken Dub/Throat Dub, which according to the label sees a departure from the more pop-focused sounds of last year’s Aura 4 Everyone. “Hakken Dub” is described as a “a gabber tribute anthem retooled into something ethereally new yet club-friendly”, while “Throat Dub (Tool)” sees Devi’s own vocals processed and layered across nine minutes of drone which functions “equally well for meditations as it would as a DJ tool.” In keeping with the stellar remix offerings featured on the label’s previous releases, Public Information and RAMP rave enthusiast IVVVO and the singular Hieroglyphic Being have been tapped up to rework both tracks. Previews of all four tracks can be previewed below.
Danse Noire will release Hakken Dub/Throat Dub on 12″ and digital formats on July 21.
1. Hakken Dub
2. Throat Dub (Tool)
3. Hakken Dub (IVVVO Remix)
4. Throat Dub (The Hieroglyphic Being Experience 9)
